Somehow the super-hip cinematography and soundtrack detracted from the essential gruesomeness of this story for me. I don’t know exactly why it missed where City of God succeeded in a similar vein. I wouldn’t say it failed, the glimmer just somehow took some of the impact out the gut punch, whereas it was enhanced in City of God.

rags to riches, bitches. rags to riches. the story that has never been told [a million times]
more crappy hollywood fluff. and i didn’t even see it.
watched this “prequel” last weekend. it was about vampires and werewolves. rad. this story never gets old. vampires still suck and werewolves have that certain intagible nobility about them. all howling at the moon. i’d tell you the name if i remembered it.
Hmm, would you call City of God rags to riches? But I think we each have our story that never gets old, and we want to hear it the same but different. If that wasn’t the case, there would be no Hollywood or Bollywood (which is definitely more the flavor of this movie).
