Our trailhead is equipped with a stove and espresso maker, which helps us get on the trail nice and early.
The route begins with a quick descent.
We depart the Highlands neighborhood…
Negotiate early morning traffic…
Stop at the bank…
Have a spot of breakfast…
Head over the interstate…
Negotiate the construction zone…
Pass the factories…
Go up the alley behind the hair studio…
Make a quick grocery stop at Target, lunch at Panera, then along Bear Creek, where we find a trail!
We take the trail out through the burbs…
Past the golf course…
And the coyote den…
Under another freeway, and into Morrison!
After a big load of veggie fajitas and beer at the Morrison Inn, we take one quick look back at the city.
Leaving the rainbows behind, we head for the hills…
And lie down exhausted among the red rocks for a long night’s rest.
A good hard rain interrupts that long night, and we scurry to raise the tent, but not fast enough to start our second day dry!

Great post! Here’s a transcript of a choppy voice mail I received from Dylan at the end of the day: “Hi…successfully made it to Morrison… hot… arduous… tired muscles… chips…blisters on his waist…good spirits…Mexican food…bye…”
awesome transcript! Thanks Ann!
