We take our visiting friend Peter out for a hike even though it’s raining, figuring it might be fun to get a little wet. At first it is, sloshing through puddles in our minimal footwear with no socks or insulation, but then the temperature starts to drop. And snow starts to fall. Finally I call for the U turn, just in time for us to get back to the trailhead with frozen hands and feet in a hard driving snow. Now that’s a final day of summer.
