For our first outing in our new-to-us Subaru forester we make our way to Nye canyon in the Pine Grove Hills. We share this location with two bear hunters who stop their ATVs to chat with us as we hike up Bald Mountain. With only an affinity for obscure locations in common, we find ourselves more chatty than we usually are by a factor of two. I bet the same is true of the hunters – remote places are social amplifiers. The little peak provides some impressive views south to White mountains, west to the Sweetwater and then Sawtooth ranges, north to the Pine Nut range, and east to the Wasuk range, snow-dusted Mt. Grant, and beyond.

I saw the giant white dried lake in the distance in one of those photos and instantly thought “Ooo, I wonder if that’s good for satellite calibration!” http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/landscapes-made-for-satellite-eyes-calibration-targets-resolution-tests-and-giant-desert-compasses
It’s great! You scratch your name in the dirt and go find it in Google
