I Surrender to the Pink Tide
Lately the hobolog has been receiving a hundred or more SPAM comments per day, mostly from online gaming places. I can’t keep up with deleting them all. For now I have resorted to comment moderation, which means that you can still make comments but they won’t show up until I approve them. I hope this…

Movie: Together
A brilliant young violinist from the country seeks his fortune in Beijing. I’m a sucker for coming-of-age movies, and musical genius movies. This is both. The characters are quirky and good-hearted, and the soundtrack is gripping. I think I like these movies because I know that I too was a musical genius growing up. I…

Employment!
The phone call came today – I have been offered the job at Colorado State University! Ann and I will probably head to Fort Collins tomorrow to scope out a place to live. Sarah has a friend with a dog-friendly place to rent near campus, and there seem to be lots of others. Even buying…

CSU Job Interview
Today I had my first job interview at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Ann suggested I bring a toothbrush, but I ignored her. I didn’t even look in the mirror before I went in. North Table Mountain
It’s a nice day above Golden. We start on Killian’s Dead (5.6), a reference to the giant Coors brewery below. It’s a steep crack with some good, awkward moves. After that we return to Lemons, Limes, and Tangerines (5.8 ) , which feels much better than last time. I almost manage a downclimb of it.

Back on the rock
After scoping out Golden Cliffs, a sport climbing area above the monstrous Coors brewery in Golden, we’re inspired to get the gear out of the storage unit. We attempt two 5.8 routes on top rope, a crack and a face. The rock is good basalt, reminiscent of the rock in Owen’s River Gorge. We can…

Having a Ball
My dad and Sarah have been avid dancers for a long time, but only recently have become competitive. Ann and I have fun rooting for them at this competition at the Antler’s Hilton in Colorado Springs. There are lots of good dancers there, all in full costume. It is fun to watch, but it also…

Movie: The Innocent
A gruesome, grating cold war spy story. Isabella Rosellini and Anthony Hopkins do their best to redeem it, but the main character never earned my sympathy. I got very tired of watching his endless attempts to dispose of a dismembered body in two giant suitcases.

Movie: Connie and Carla
Two women hide from a drug dealer disguised as drag queens in Hollywood. The plot is just an excuse for the performances, which are hilarious and insightful. The movie mines a wealth of humor from the fact that behavior that is totally uninteresting when exhibited by women can be very intriguing and entertaining in drag…
