  • White Moon, Black Tree, Red Hills

The rising sun has been turning the foothills into rubies recently. To stretch the analogy, the tree is the living stuff that can become coal long after it dies, and diamonds shining like the moon long after that. Ok, I’ll shut up and leave the poor picture alone now 🙂 I played with some sunrise…

  • Moonset Behind Greyrock

Today I decided to focus on the opportunity to watch the near-full moon set in the morning instead of my usual sunrise routine. To my delight, the moon’s path took it down directly behind Greyrock, one of my favorite local landmarks. I took a series of the moon disappearing after this – let me know…

  • Dawn Ducks and Cattails

This morning I was drawn to this clump of cattails on Heron Lake. As I approached it a Great Blue Heron sprang out and flew away before I could ready my camera! There were plenty of other birds on the lake this morning too, but I hope I can approach more cautiously and get a…

  • Taft Hill Bridge Sunrise

Good morning from the Taft Hill Road bridge over the Cache La Poudre River. The view from this bridge consists mostly of ponds and rock piles made by local quarry. It’s part of what makes birds love this area, and it was quite nice this morning.

  • Dawn Horse

My equine friend seemed to be hiding from the rising sun this morning, but unable to resist peeking out at it. It’s a cold morning, and utterly still. The clear sky reminds me how monstrously big the burning globe of the sun must be to dominate our sky from 92 million miles away.

  • Sunrise over Shields St.

I like catching the glow of the rising sun through the windows of passing cars when I ride under Shields Street in the morning.

  • Howes St

When I emerge from the bike path I ride up Howes Street to work. I thought it would be interesting to contrast this view in different seasons. I also encountered a very large, fluffy Red Fox on the trail this morning who was far too quick and graceful for my camera, and another gorgeous sunrise.

  • Not really missing the white Christmas

We had an amazingly calm, sunny, warm Christmas day in Fort Collins, so we had our Christmas dinner on the picnic table! Just like summer, but without the mosquitos.

  • Lunch at Lucile’s

The Four Winds, the Lords of Cosmic Jest, and the Wheel of Fortune converge to bring my mother, father, Sarah, her son Adrian, and my cousin Doug together for Lunch at Lucile’s, despite everyone’s plans to the contrary. Or was it the Ghost of Christmas Present? More Photos
