Dances
Jon’s daughter Brook and my father and Sarah take turns dancing for us in Sarah’s ballroom. Brook does very detailed Thai dances, and Dad and Sarah perform both International- and American-style ballroom dances. Forest does some impressive aerial acrobatics.

A Day at the Zoo
The day after I drop Ann off at Denver International Airport to attend her brother Ryan’s wedding, my dad and I return to pick up my cousin Jon, wife Claire, and kids Brook and Forest for a visit. They’re on a furlough from their missionary work in Thailand. We go to the Denver zoo, where…

Ann’s Birthday
My dad wins the prize this year for Most of Considerate Recognition of Birthday. Ann comes home to a huge bouquet of flowers, an ice cream cake with her name on it, and three wrapped presents. Ann says it’s the first personally-addressed cake she’s ever eaten. My dad replies that with years of experience with…

“Speed”
We cast wisom aside and head for the roller coaster after brunch. “Speed” is the name of the ride, and I should have given it some consideration. I was thinking I’d have some time to prepare. I sit down, lower the harness over my shoulders, look at Ann beside me, and the next thing I…

Champagne Brunch at the Sahara
We had planned to climb at Red Rocks today, but it was still raining at 2 am this morning so we slept in. We do get up in time for this $10 brunch, which features unlimited champagne and giant crab legs. Anne Marie takes pictures of the mountains of crab leg shells on people’s tables.…

Sociometry Fair 2004
Today we attend the grand finale of Sociometry Fair 2004. As always there are many strange and interesting people milling around, with intriguing conversations springing up frequently. Amidst these I do my best to absorb the exhibits. There is a self-service VCR screening area with a large selection of tapes. I catch some agents watching…

Show: Zumanity
We’re nearly late for this show and have to charge three miles through crowds on the strip to make it. Our $65 balcony seats are cabaret stools close to the bar. The performances are amazing, as we’d expect from Cirque du Soleil, and sexy, as we’d expect from the billing. Sometimes the injection of sex…

Somerset House, Las Vegas
After hours in traffic on the strip we check into our new digs with a firm resolve to leave the car behind when we go out again. Our room here is $54 for the three of us. While there isn’t much attention to the decor (look at the paintings), we have a kitchenette with a…

Sociometry Fair 2004 After Party
We head east across town to the Katherine Gianclis Park for the Arts, and get primed for the spectacles to come in the Sociometry Fair.

Carnival World Buffet
This is the buffet at the Rio that was recommended to Pete by local *IS* agents. We pay the computer $22.99 apiece, then wait like cattle to be led to the trough. It’s the biggest feeding frenzy I’ve ever seen, with something like 1200 items, all gourmet. Ann and I spend 10 minutes surveying everything…
